Workshop: Research Methods in Fundamental Rights. The Centre for Fundamental Rights at the Hertie School has announced its Second Annual Workshop on Research Methods in Fundamental Rights! taking place online from 2-4 June 2021. The Workshop aims to provide doctoral and early-career legal researchers with opportunities to reflect on diverse research methods in human rights research. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to discuss these methods with the faculty! who will provide guidance and reflections on the methods they have applied in key pieces of their own research. Participants will also submit reflections on their own research questions and methods! and will receive individual feedback on their projects. The deadline for applications is 1 March 2021. 2. Panel on The International Criminal Court vs. Powerful States: The United Kingdom/Iraq Preliminary Examination and Beyond. On18 February! 15:00 CET! the Amsterdam Center for International Law will host a virtual panel on ‘The International Criminal Court vs. Powerful States: The United Kingdom/Iraq Preliminary Examination and Beyond’. Last December! the International Criminal Court Prosecutor! Fatou Bensouda! announced she would close the preliminary examination into the United Kingdom/Iraq situation. The Prosecutor’s decision to not seek authorization to open an investigation into alleged UK crimes has been met with criticism. The panelists will analyze different aspects of the Prosecutor’s decision and its implications for future investigations into crimes committed by powerful states. Milan Investment Arbitration Week
From 15 – 20 February 2021! Università degli Studi di Milano and the European Court of Arbitration! in cooperation with the law firms BonelliErede and DLA Piper will host the first edition of the “Milan Investment Arbitration Week” (MIAW)! a series of different events (conferences! round-table debates! legal competitions) in relation to international investment law and arbitration. Both Italian and foreign experts from academia! legal profession and arbitral institutions will address from different angles some of the most relevant topics related to the field. In addition!
