Today, Switzerland was on the front side of an extensive low-pressure complex that stretch from Scandinavia to Great Britain. Embd in the southwesterly upper air current, wash-away cloud fields repeatly reach Switzerland in the upper layer. As the trough approach during the day, this cloud cover thicken, which increasingly ruc the amount of sunshine.

cloud layers
Basically, there are three cloud layers: the lower layer (sea level up to about 2 km altitude), the middle layer (about 2 to 7 km altitude) and the upper layer (above about 7 km altitude). Today we are looking at the clouds of the upper layer. These clouds consist mainly of ice crystals. A distinction is made between the cloud types cirrus, cirrostratus and cirrocumulus. A special case is the cumulonimbus. This type of cloud extends vertically over all three layers.

Cirrus

Cirrocumulus
Cirrocumulus refers to thin, white patches, fields or layers of clouds without their own shadows. They consist of very small, grainy, rippl, intergrown or isolat cloud parts and are arrang more or less regularly.
