Paywalls come from negative reasoning: if we don’t put it behind a wall, people will ‘steal’ our pieces. We prefer to think the other way around: if someone gets excited by someone else, they might become a member too.
So we built a share button and showed in a header above a shared piece that you had received the story as a gift from someone.”

“And yes, now it is of course possible to read De Correspondent for free with a bit of creativity. But our experience is slovenia phone number library that we get more members because more people come into contact with what we make.

what they find important, and I think that’s why we have so many new members now. Because ultimately people want the convenience of a site where you can click around, the daily email with new pieces, and the ability to contribute to discussions with correspondents.”
How important is your Facebook page, in terms of daily website traffic and new members?
“We don’t really pay attention to taffic. We’re an ad-free medium, so traffic growth isn’t that important to us. Member growth and retention are our most important metrics.
In the past thirty days, 151 of the 1182 new members demonstrably joined via Facebook. That is 12.8 percent. Furthermore, we show all non-members who click through via Facebook a pop-up. They then receive a sample article from our editor-in-chief Rob Wijnberg every Saturday morning . That way we also reach them outside of Facebook.”

“Most of our media strategist Mayke Blok’s ( @maykeblok ) attention goes to Facebook and Twitter . The former because that’ how to use artificial intelligence in ecommerce marketing s where the audience is, the latter because that’s where our colleagues are. On Google+ and LinkedIn we share an article every few days. That generates some traffic, but it’s not very impressive.
